This is a speedpaint I made about a week ago, I used a screencap from the movie “Stoker” as a reference.. the girl in my drawing is called “India” in the movie, hence the name. You should also check out the film it’s absolutely amazing! (If you’re into psychological thrillers)
Anyways.. I trief a different technique for a change, normally i would use lineart as a base for my drawing but this time i did without and this was actually the first time I’ve tried this. I have had very positive feedback on it.
This was the original one but I’ve been playing around with color a bit and I really liked this version myself:
This is very recent, i finished it on August 16th and was hoping to make something in the dark fantasy category and i feel like that had been achieved however i also think that it lacks emotion like practically everything i make.. the thing about this one is that it’s very clearly my style and it might not just be a “pretty” face and that makes it different.
Personally i really like it, someone gave me some good advice on improving this piece and it worked!
This is something i made at the end of July, i know I haven’t been posting for a while so i’m just putting it up here right now.. this one was inspired by the cat version of the character Hanekawa from the anime Bakemonogatari.
A new drawing/painting I’ve made.. I have become much more aware of my weaknesses but also continue to improve.
The things that frustrate me are: anatomy (i should have this down by now), shading (this is a huge problem) and linework.. I would like to get rid of all those lines because it makes my stuff look cartoonish and I’d like to become a digital artist who mainly does semi realistic paintings.
Then there are things I am pretty satisfied with: my sense of color (I feel like my intuition is pretty good), my increasing knowledge of drawing/editing software, my capability of making something and improving along the way without any real schooling on the particular subject and perhaps my passion to keep on doing what i like no matter what anyone says!
Now onto the technical aspect.. I used my brand new Wacom Bamboo!! Yes i have a new tablet! Woohooo! This is a enormous improvement over my old Wacom Sapphire (dating back to 2002). I’d also like to note that I use Pixelmator for my drawing/painting and often iPhoto for any last minute easy color editing.
This is something I’m working on in Pixelmator, I am not sure where I am going with this but I’m sure to make something nice out of it.. I finally got the hang of using layers and I figured out how it makes everything so much easier! Though I am still trying to find a way to paint hair nicely, this is really bugging me.. I know the techniques in so far as that I know how it works but it just never looks that nice and professional. My paintings are often quite messy and that is what I should avoid this time.
Anyways.. I am ending this here, my goals for this painting are: making it look a bit more nice and clean than I normally do, using layers correctly and finishing it.
I made this with SumoPaint and off course my old crappy wacom (but on my new Macbook Pro, hells to the yeah).
Took me about an hour, I’m happy with the colors but not with the nose.. i have to get to learning on how to draw a proper nose.
